» Kassin74 - Abuse

I have seen both aspects of abuse. From men being abused by women, and women abusing men as the passage stated it still does not change the fact that abuse occurs. After reading the passage, I started to think. What can we do as a society to change our way of thinking about abuse? Abuse is looked at as a female originated problem, but more and more men are victims also. What needs to be done?

These are very good questions. I persoanlly believe that our society neds to address abuse as a whole since it does happen to both men and women. The United States fosters a belief that power is the way to live and it is not. This, of course, began with the way our country was "founded" but no steps have been taken to change it. I believe that until this can be done abuse will be a continued problem. Here on this site and on others like it we are trying to change the world we live in one life at a time. We will continue to do this by supporting and informing.

I've known many men who have been in abusive relationships, including my abusive father(who was abused by my stepmother). Sexual humiliation, insults, hitting, excessive nagging...harming his pets or children, threatening suicide...just some of the weapons in the abusive woman's arsenal.

Control and lacking respect for other people's boundaries has no gender. In fact, there are a lot of abusive couples who settle their issues through controlling/hurting each other. These pairs pose a great danger to their children.
