Who should I see to confirm that my partner suffers from such a personality disorder and my children are at further risk from witnessing this behavior?

Hi there,

I would think that for your partner to get a diagnosis of a personality disorder, it would mean that your partner would have to see a professional to be assessed.

Another way if your partner won't consent to this may be to try joint therapy and to see if that could be an in to getting your partner assessed.

Whether you can get your partner to agree to a professional assessment or not, you will likley benefit from seeing a professional councellor yourself with the children. This, along with documenting any incidents of abuse of you and/or the children and/or calling the police if necessary depending on the type and degree of abuse you are suffering might be helpful in establishing what is actually going on for those who cannot otherwise know.

If you are this worried about the children it sounds as if you may also have reason to worry about yourself and that the situation you are in may well not be a safe one.

I hope that you will seek help for yourself and your children even if your partner will also get assessed and get help.

A.J.
